Beckenham Town 0-1 Croydon

Match Report by Scott Bulmer
Croydon came to town on a wet and overcast afternoon, perfect for some good football. With both sides realising that a win would take them near the top of the table and Beckenham looking for an 8th consecutive league win it was a lively opening to the game with chances for both sides and strong physical battles all over the pitch.
Midway through the half Stefan Joseph broke the deadlock for Croydon as he avoided the frantic challenges flying in from the Beckenham defence and dispatched it coolly to the keepers right. Before the end of the half George Benner had two good heading opportunities to equalise with the second at the back post, heading it down into the ground but unfortunately looping over the bar to the Croydon keeper’s relief.
The majority of the second half had Croydon camped in their own half defending their lead but always keeping the threat of a counter attack real. Referee Richard Joss controversially waved away a Beckenham penalty claim as Jake Britnell went down on the right side of the box.
Croydon’s Bradley Wilson was sent off shortly after for a terrible sliding challenge on Frank Warren.
Beckenham had some chances towards the end of the game, most notably a ball played across the face of goal which was begging for someone to tap in but no one could get there.
The match finished 1-0 to Croydon moving them up to second in the table with Beckenham being left in sixth but both sides may want to avoid the large number of cards that the referee handed.
Next up we are away to Cray Valley on Saturday in the Kent Senior Trophy, our next home game is the FA Vase 3rd round at home to Eastbourne Town on Saturday 2nd December.
