JEMMOTT OFF .. AS LORDS GRAB POINT .. Beckenham Town 2 Lordswood 2
Not the result the pundits had been predicting and frustratingly for Becks more a case of three points dropped rather than a point gained.
There wasn't much in this drab Kent League encounter to provide distraction from the sub-zero conditions. However, what was clear is that the newly created Lordswood side - looking young in age and brimming with youthful enthusiasm - is likely over the coming weeks to create a far bigger impression than their predecessors.
Becks familiar pattern of over generosity in front of goal was again in disappointing evidence during the opening spell. Chances for Jemmott and Gorman came and went before Gary Gorman made amends for his earlier misses, taking advantage of a scuffed clearance by the keeper to drive the ball into the empty net after 15 minutes.
It wasn't a lead that Becks were allowed to dwell on - Jemmott was caught out on the edge of the area allowing Elmes in for the equaliser two minutes later.
After 20 minutes, Jemmott's retaliation to having the ball knocked from his hand while preparing to take a throw in, left the referee with little option but to show him the red card.
Becks 10 men still managed to press during the early exchanges in the second half. After 56 minutes, a Danny Lawson cross looked to be going out of play before a spectacular overhead retrieval by Danny Gorman arched on to the head of brother Gary to get Becks back in front.
Just how the referee managed to calculate 15 minutes of injury time is something only he and his watch manufacturer will be privileged to - but it did provide sufficient time for Lordswood to grab an unlikely equaliser from the penalty spot through Wallond. |
