Last night saw us collect 3 more league points on our travels to Glebe FC. Glebe have recently changed their management team, so the 6 – 0 win earlier in the season was always going to be hard to match.
With the game taking places under the local firework displays in Chiselhurst we were first to strike, after starting the game positively and on the front foot, Jamie Humphris whipped in a great cross from the left and found the head of lethal striker Richard Atkins, he headed home his 11th league goal of the season.
The turning point in the game came after we cleared a ball into the box, Al Hassan and a Glebe player came together, with the latter being sent off while Al Hassan was booked. But it wasn’t to turned our way to start with, Glebe gained more control of the game while we lost some of the edge we had started with.
The good spell Glebe had led to them bringing the scores level before half time. We had chances to clear our lines, but in the end gave the ball away, the striker glided into the box and finished into the bottom corner with 3 of our players around him.
Whatever Billy Walton and co said at half time had the desired effect, 4 minutes into the second half and we were in front again. Shameek Farrell twisted and turned his way down the right, cut in onto his hammer of a left foot and drove a low shot through the 6 yard box and into the side netting.
The early goal settled us into a better shape and skipper George Benner started to lead the team to a well organised and managed second half. We were tested with a few balls into the box which were dealt with, a couple being with a bit of difficulty as Glebe were still pressing hard to get back into the game.
All the points were sealed, when Shameek hit a wonderful strike at goal, this time the home keeper couldn’t hold on and first to react was Atkins who got to the ball first to scored his 12th league goal.
For the remaining minutes of the match, it turned into a keep ball session, Glebe were running out of steam and with one less player we were knocking the ball around making it even harder for them to get near us.
Another great league performance accomplished, up to 6th in the table before the weekends results and a massive FA Vase fixture to look forward to next weekend.
Thank you all for your support on the road, as you can tell the players appreciate your time and effort given to following the Becks, long may it continue.
COME ON YOU BECKS!!!!
