SUPERMAC WAS PRESIDENT Becks President at the time was local MP The RT. HON. Harold Macmillan ("Supermac") who went on to become Prime Minster from 1957 to 1963. Remembered for saying "You've never had it so good" as Britain boomed. He died on 29 December 1986
SYDNEY BOX AMONGST THE VICE PRESIDENTS Sydney Box was a British film producer and screenwriter, brother of another prominent British filmmaker, Betty Box. He produced the post-war screenplay, The Seventh Veil, which earned him the 1946 Oscar for the best original screenplay. He died on 25 May 1983
"THE MIGHTY ATOM" WAS A VICE PRESIDENT Also amongst the Club's list of Vice Presidents was Sydney Wooderson dubbed the "The Mighty Atom" - he was one of Britain's greatest middle-distance runners. He set a world mile record of 4m 6.4 sec in August 1937 - it was a record that stood for nearly five years. He represented local club Blackheath Harriers. He died on 21 December 2006
OTHER VICE PRESIDENTS:
R.P.S Eddon O.B.E was Beckenham's Mayor he was also a local doctor and had his practice on the corner of Cherry Tree Walk and Eden Park Avenue. Percy Jones owned Beckenham based Company Twinlocks.
