LUCKY BREAK FOR BECKS
A goal in the last minute from Becks leading scorer Jake Hobbs salvaged a point for Becks in Saturday's Kent Hurlimann League match. In a very forgettable encounter, the visitors took advantage of a Nick Curren error in the 46th minute that allowed Michael Bishop to get Sevenoaks ahead.  The goal did little to raise the tempo and it looked as though Becks were heading for defeat when a very dubious hand ball decision gave Becks a penalty in the 90th minute. Jake Hobbs, who has fourteen successful spot kick conversions to his credit this season, saw his shot saved by Oaks new goalkeeper Ashley Bourne but, to Becks relief, Hobbs scrambled the ball in as it rebounded to him from the keepers save.

OFF WE GO AGAIN  - at last
Such has been the length of football inactivity it needs a moment or two to recap on the situation as it was before the Snow Gods decided to bring down their freezing blanket. Becks currently occupy 4th place in the Kent Hurlimann League with games in hand and a superior goal difference over Erith Town (in 2nd place) and Erith & Belvedere (in 3rd place). If Becks manage to bank three points from Saturday's much postponed encounter at Eden Park Avenue against Sevenoaks Town and the "Eriths" slip up, then Becks could find themselves in second place come 5.45pm on Saturday.  Becks go into Saturday's game on the back of a run of three consecutive League wins, whilst their visitors are currently back in fourteenth place with 15 points from their 20 matches.Whilst the sub-zero conditions have taken their toll on the usually lush EPA pitch, nevertheless everything seems set to welcome back football this weekend.

PROSPECTS BRIGHTER
At last the arctic conditions seem at least temporarily to have  released their freezing grip on non-league football. The forecast along with the prospects of football this weekend look a lot brighter. To enable the Kent Hurlimann League fixtures to free clubs for vital Cup ties the fixtures are being rolled over on a week-to-week basis. Becks, who were due to entertain Lordswood at Eden Park Avenue, now entertain Sevenoaks Town - the match that was scheduled to be played last Saturday. Due to the enforced weather break, Becks have not been in action for a fortnight; their last game was the Macron League Cup tie at VCD Athletic on 31st January. Becks boss Jason Huntley speaking exclusively to the club's web site yesterday stated "it's an extremely frustrating time, it was the same last season, let's hope we get back to playing football this weekend". Becks who are currently in 4th place have thirteen remaining League games to fulfil their fixtures

THREE OFF AS BECKS CRASH OUT
Becks are out of the Macron Kent Premier Division Cup after their 2-0 extra time defeat at the hands of VCD Athletic. In a game filled with controversial refereeing decisions Becks had Steve McNamara (80th minute), Jake Hobbs (100th minute) and Skipper Jason Rose (110 minutes) all sent off. As in the first leg, Becks had the majority of both possession and chances, but were denied by a series of saves by the Vickers keeper. After a goalless first half, James Duckworth scored the vital goal for the home side in the 65th minute to bring the aggregate scores level at 2-2 and send the game into extra time. Becks were behind for the first time in the two legs when Daryl Wheeler put Vickers ahead in the second period of extra time. Becks then had what looked like a valid penalty claim turned down by referee Kevin Welsh who having awarded the penalty changed his decision after a discussion with his assistant.

HAT TRICK FOR ELSTROM
The return of Becks leading marksmen Jake Hobbs and Elstrom Die always promised to produce goals against lowly Deal Town in Saturday's Kent Hurlimann League game at Eden Park Avenue. The "deadly duo" didn't disappoint, producing five goals between them in Becks 7-0 victory. Elstrom Die scored a second half hat trick in a blistering five minute spell; Hobbs added another two - his second from the penalty was his fourteenth successful strike from spot this season! Becks were three goals up after 60 minutes through goals from Alfie Nunn, skipper Jason Rose and Jake Hobbs when Deal's keeper Chris Waymark was injured in bringing down Elstrom Die as he rounded him in the area. The referee Mark Scott had no option but to show the injured Waymark a red card and Hobbs added his second and Becks fourth from the resulting penalty. Die's second half hat trick completed a difficult afternoon for Becks visitors.

"DEADLY DUO" RETURN
Becks look certain to be back to full strength for the visit of Deal Town in Saturday's Kent Hurlimann League game at Eden Park Avenue. Back come their two leading marksmen Jake Hobbs and Elstrom Die, along with the influential Adam Greenway. All three missed last Saturday's defeat in the Umbro Kent Senior Trophy. There is also better news about long term injured Danny Lawson. Lawson was injured in Becks F.A. Cup tie against Ryman League Worthing back at the beginning of October and hasn't played since. At last, it looks as though Lawson is nearing match fitness.

JASON NOT HAPPY

Becks boss, Jason Huntley wasted no time in issuing a clear message to his squad after Saturday's disappointing defeat at Hollands & Blair. Huntley, speaking exclusively to the club's web site yesterday stated "I've told the players to put last Saturday's result behind them. We have two key games ahead of us: Deal Town on Saturday, and the second leg of the League Cup against VCD Athletic next Tuesday, that's now our focus. I've got total confidence that the players can respond in the right way". Certain pre-match publicity has also upset Huntley "we were not happy with the way in which pre-match comments were reported which in our view was disrespectful to our opponents, not something we are very pleased about".

DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY
Becks are out of the Umbro Kent Senior Trophy after Saturday's shock 2-1 extra time defeat at the hands of Kent Invicta League side Hollands & Blair at Star Meadow. Becks, leading through a Chris Edwards goal with just 30 seconds of the match remaining, were left rocked by a last gasp equaliser for Blair through Mike Smith. There wasn't time for play to resume before referee Dan Bonneywell blew the whistle for time. Becks paid the ultimate penalty for allowing the home side back into the match when Cliff Eldridge added a second six minutes into extra time. Becks boss Jason Huntley commenting afterwards stated "It  has been a strange season for us in Cup competitions; apart from the Worthing replay in the FA Cup we haven't been beaten in 90 minutes by anyone, all our Cup exits have been in extra time. Nevertheless, I'm very disappointed to have lost a game which we were expected to win - and should have".

ADVANTAGE BECKS
Becks carry a slender one goal advantage into the second Leg of the Macron Premier Division Cup after their 2-1 home victory over VCD Athletic on Tuesday night . Becks may ultimately regret not capitalising on their first half superiority when they created enough chances to have comfortably booked their passage into the next round. All they had to show at the break was a Ben Slade goal after 40 minutes. The second half was a different story with the visitors looking a lot more dangerous and starting to create goal scoring chances.  Becks hit back: Adam Greenway hit the cross bar before Harry Draper added Becks second in the 53rd minute. It looked as though Becks had secured their two goal margin but the visitors, having had a man sent off with four minutes remaining, then struck back with a priceless goal through Cioni in the last minute.

BECKS DOWN AND OUT !!
Becks had Alfie Nunn sent off in Tuesday's bruising 2-0 London Senior Cup defeat at the hands of Ryman League Thamesmead Town at Eden Park Avenue. It took until extra time to separate the two sides when goals from Butler after 104 minutes and Fairweather-Johnson after 115 minutes secured for the visitors an away trip to face Met Police.  Becks Secretary Peter Palmer was critical about the way in which the match was handled by the officials. Speaking after the match he stated "I've got no complaints about the goals or the result. But in what was a very physical match I was not satisfied with the degree of protection offered to our players by the referee. I spoke to him about this during break. I think probably the time has come for us consider whether this is a competition in which we want to compete".    Match Action | Photo Diary
